Roth Technologies, LLCIndustrial seals for moving wire processes
Applications

Seal the wire path into the process.

Moving Wire Seals are used at the entry point where a continuously moving wire passes into a liquid coating bath or a sealed chemical treatment tube.

Applicator bath

MWS at the bottom of the bath.

The MWS is fitted into the floor of an applicator or bath. The moving wire passes through the seal and into the liquid dispersion. The illustration shows the wire path and a flat liquid surface.

  • Designed for non-pressurized applicator tanks.
  • Tip opening is made by the end user to suit the wire.
  • Seal material and holder dimensions should be qualified for the application.
For low-viscosity, water-based PTFE dispersion, free-meniscus coating is a relevant process approach to evaluate. MWS is the seal at the bath entry, not the coating method itself.

Cross-section concept: the wire passes through the MWS at the bottom of the bath and exits through the liquid surface.
Continuous wire coating

The MWS supports one part of the line.

A wire-coating installation can include a pay-off, wetting agent, primer and dispersion applicators, followed by controlled drying, baking and sintering before take-up.

The supplied process drawing is a conceptual line illustration. Final line layout, coating thickness and oven conditions depend on the material and process design.

Chemical treatment

Sealing a heated treatment tube.

MWS units can seal both ends of a stainless-steel tube containing a heated chemical solution, such as Fluoroetch®, while allowing PTFE-coated wire to pass through.

Chemical resistance, temperature and wire compatibility must be assessed for the selected MWS material and the specific chemistry.
